Experience

Editorial Intern, 5280 Magazine, August 2018-Present

My primary role at 5280 Magazine is fact checking articles before they go to print. This requires strong critical thinking and language skills. To date, I have written two articles for the magazine and participated in research for several others.

News Reporting Intern, Riverfront Times, January 2018-May 2018

As a news reporting intern, I worked closely with the editor in chief who assigns me two stories a week. I wrote 29 articles for the Riverfront Times. Three of my articles were published in the print magazine while all others were published online. I covered events such as store openings, protests, and crime. I edited my stories and took the photographs for them as well.

Editor in Chief of The University News, Saint Louis University, May 2017-May 2018

As editor in chief of The University News, my main role was to over see 14 editors and 20 writers. This year I added the diversity editor position to work as a second set of eyes on all sensitive topics as well as to make sure we were informed and covered events across a wide spectrum of communities. Second only to that, other roles include identifying and developing stories that kept the student body and faculty and staff informed of what is happening in our community. From a managing standpoint, I started bi-weekly training meetings for editors and writers. In these meetings we went over news writing basics and then break in sections for story pitching. Another change I made as editor in chief was to take the layout of the paper from broadsheet to tabloid. I designed the page layout myself and worked out how many stories could fit on each page.  Through this change I was able to add a photo spread, allowing for more photo essays and feature stories. Finally, I managed a distribution of 1500 copies across two campuses, as well as our website and social media.

Content Intern, Sapper Consulting, May 2017-Present

I worked full time in the summer and part time during the school year,  as a content intern for Sapper Consulting, a lead generation firm.  My main job is to write personalized email campaigns using Sapper's specific strategy that involves doing research on the client. The purpose of these campaigns is to generate quality leads that turn into meetings for Sapper's clients. I average about 10 campaigns a week. I also have helped Sapper organize and launch a new blog. I wrote three blog posts that were shared on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn, as well as their website. From there I flexed into a social media position and I managed social media accounts including, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and  Instagram. Twitter and Facebook engagement  increases over 100% each month and LinkedIn has gained 18 followers, and visitors have increased by 424.

Managing Editor of The University News, Saint Louis University, December 2016-May 2017

I became managing editor of The University News half way through my junior year and it was my first editing position. I learned the role quickly and soon flexed in into organizing the weekly issue and getting the pages ready for layout. This included updating all dates, authors, and photos. A main responsibility I had as managing editor was to oversee content. This included checking in with section editors on the progress of their pages as well as approving the stories. I participated in weekly editorial meetings where we discussed and wrote two editorials. When necessary, I filled in as a reporter. During my time as managing editor I wrote four articles.

Reporter for The University News, Saint Louis University  August 2016-December 2016

As a reporter foe The university News, I wrote stories about events on campus and on community events and developed sources. Events that I covered included the installation of a new sorority on campus, the reaction to a controversial speaker on campus, and a controversial art exhibit at a local museum and the suspicious closing of a local restaurant frequented by students. During this time, I wrote three articles, two were printed on the front page.
